Rustic Cowboy Wedding on a Family Farm Near Strathmore, Alberta

Kyra & Greg’s Strathmore Farm Wedding Photography

Kyra and Greg’s wedding day near Strathmore, Alberta was the perfect blend of rustic charm, family connection, and prairie beauty. Originally planned as an outdoor ceremony on their farm, a fast-moving thunderstorm rolled through that morning. Rain on your wedding day is said to bring good luck, and their celebration proved exactly that—full of meaning, heartfelt moments, and the kind of authentic simplicity that makes a rural Alberta wedding unforgettable.

When the weather shifted, the ceremony was moved into a church in Strathmore. The change in location didn’t take away from the emotion of the moment; it only made the vows feel more intimate. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they exchanged vows while their two daughters walked ahead of them as flower girls, bringing a sweet and personal touch to the ceremony.

As soon as the rain eased, we returned to their family farm for photos. The soft, diffused light after a storm is a dream for any Alberta wedding photographer, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Most of their portraits took place in the back field where their cows are usually kept. With the herd moved for the day, the open landscape created a peaceful and natural backdrop—tall grasses, open prairie sky, and the quiet calm that comes after rainfall.

Including their horses in the photos added a genuine Western feel to the session, creating images that reflect their life on the farm in the most meaningful way. These kinds of portraits are what make Alberta ranch and farm weddings so unique: real places, real history, and a setting that already belongs to the couple’s story.

By the time guests arrived for the reception, the skies had cleared and the weather settled into a perfect prairie evening. A large tent set up on their property created a relaxed, welcoming space for the celebration. The atmosphere was simple and warm, centred on good food, great company, and the joy of being together on land that means so much to their family. Tent weddings on Alberta farms carry a calm, comfortable energy, and Kyra and Greg’s reception was the perfect example.

Their wedding day was a reminder that some of the most beautiful celebrations come from embracing the unexpected. The storm passed, the light became incredible, and the entire day unfolded in a way that felt honest, natural, and true to who they are. Photographing their Strathmore farm wedding was a privilege, and the images tell a story rooted in home, family, and the Alberta prairie.
